How to Break in a Scandinavian Mattress

Scandinavian mattresses are the ultimate in sleep systems. You won't find any springs inside a Scandinavian mattress; rather, you will find multiple types of foam and latex at various thicknesses designed to provide a restful sleep while reducing pressure points on the body. The mattress consists of multiple materials designed to wick moisture and heat away from the body, including quilted and ventilated memory foam and rigid foam.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a piece of plastic sheeting between the Scandinavian mattress and its solid base foam foundation so the mattress turns easily.

    • 2

Choose the side you plan to sleep on and stick with that side, if you share the bed with a partner. Use the mattress for up to two weeks in the same position.

    • 3

Strip the bedsheets and pull the top mattress away from the headboard approximately 6 inches.

    • 4

Twist the mattress 180 degrees so the foot of the mattress is now at the head of the bed.

    • 5

Sleep on the bed like this for another two weeks, ensuring each partner retains the same side of the bed.

    • 6

Repeat this process to sustain the life of the mattress. Most Scandinavian beds come with a 15-to 20-year warranty. Changing the mattress 180 degrees every three to six months ensures its longevity.
