Saw a wood sheet to make the base, top and sides of a box to contain your drawer. Make the pieces any dimensions you wish, as long as the side pieces are the same size, the base and top are equal in size, and the length of the base and top pieces are 2 inches longer than the length of the drawer glides.
Attach the straight door glides to the side pieces according to package directions. This typically involves screwing the drawer glides into the wood. Use a square to make sure the drawer glides are completely even.
Drill starter holes, spaced 2 inches apart, along the long edges of the base and top pieces. Attach the base and top pieces to the side pieces to make a box. The drawer glides should be inside the box, adjacent to the base.
Measure the length and width of the box’s opening. Cut two wood pieces with a handsaw according to these dimensions. One will be the front of the drawer, and the other will be the back piece of the drawer’s box. Drill starter holes, spaced 2 inches apart, along the edge of the back piece and screw it in place on the back of the box.
Drill holes, spaced 4 inches apart, through the back piece of the box and mount it to the wall using screws sturdy enough to support the weight of the finished floating drawer and any items you want to put on or in it. Use a square to ensure an even placement.
Saw wood to make the base, top, back and sides of the drawer. Make the lengths and widths of these pieces 2 ½ inches smaller than the dimensions used for the drawer’s box.
Assemble the drawer pieces together using the same techniques used to assemble the drawer box.
Install drawer slides to the outside bottom and sides of the drawer so they fit together with the slides installed on the drawer box. Use the instructions that come with your drawer slides to determine precisely how to install them.
Screw a commercial drawer handle to the front of the drawer.
Slide the drawer into the mounted wall box to complete your project.
