How to Make Wooden Dresser Drawer Close Easier

A dresser is an important and functional piece of furniture in a bedroom. Even nice dressers sometimes have wooden drawers that stick. These drawers may or may not close the way they should. Sometimes the humidity in your home makes the wood expand and stick in place. However, most often the wood of the drawer comes in contact with the wood in the dresser. The friction between the wood pieces can make it difficult to open or close the drawer.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the drawer completely from the dresser.

    • 2

Examine the inside of the dresser where the drawer slides back and forth. Use pliers to remove any paint, staples, nails or debris from the drawer guides. Often, these can make it difficult for the drawer to slide in and out of place.

    • 3

Rub a bar of soap or a candle along the drawer guides inside the dresser. The wax or soap will make it easier for the drawer to glide in or out. Scented candles or soap will add a pleasant smell to the dresser. Repeat occasionally.

    • 4

Re-insert the drawer into the dresser. Move it back and forth inside the dresser to ensure that it is working as desired.
