How to Apply Minwax Paste to a Shabby Chic Dresser

Shabby chic is a design term used to describe a style that is characterized by antiqued, distressed pieces. A shabby chic dresser make have a faux antique glaze, purposefully chipped paint, or any other finish that makes the dresser look old. A coating of Minwax finishing paste in clear, or "natural," will protect the dresser from actual damage and preserve the look of the piece. Minwax finishing paste is easy to apply and dries quickly.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the dresser surface with a damp sponge to remove all dust and dirt. Let it air-dry.

    • 2

Lay one cheesecloth directly on top of the other so that all the edges line up. Scoop a teaspoon of the paste wax into the center of the top cheesecloth.

    • 3

Join the four corners of the cheesecloths and hold them like a handle. Rub the cheesecloth over the surface of the dresser lightly. As you rub, a thin layer of paste wax will come through the cheesecloth and coat the dresser.

    • 4

Rub the thin layer of wax over the top of the dresser, along all the trim and on the front of the drawers. Let the paste dry for 15 minutes.

    • 5

Polish the paste wax. Use a clean, lint-free cloth to buff the paste wax in a circular motion until the surface of the dresser shines.
