Mounting a Shutter T-Post to a Window Frame

Mounting shutters to windows requires special mounting fasteners to get the shutters to fit over the window frame properly. To mount the outside edges of a shutter inside the window, choose Z-frames, or mounts that have a “Z” profile. Pick L-frames for mounting either inside or outside the frame. Whenever the shutters don’t quite meet in the middle of the window, a shutter T-post is installed vertically down the center of the window opening. Setting the shutter posts is a simple task that doesn’t require any special tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Close the shutters. Measure the width of the opening the shutter-T post is going to cover. Measure the height of the window to determine how long the T-post needs to be.

    • 2

Hold the T-post in the desired location. Open the shutters again so they are out of the way during the T-post installation. Mark where the pre-drilled holes are on the T-post onto the window frame. Drill pilot holes in those locations.

    • 3

Attach the T-post to the window frame with the flathead 6-by-1.5-inch screws included in its assembly kit. Close the shutters once again, setting their edges behind the T-post.

    • 4

Cover the screw heads with a button plug from the assembly kit. Not all manufacturers include plugs in their kits.
