Day/Night shades are designed to offer optimal versatility, combining a shear pleated shade with a blackout shade all in one window dressing. Day/Night shades allow you to fully expose the window by putting the shade up, filter the light slightly using only the shear (or "day") shade or have maximum privacy and light control using the blackout (or "night") shade. Whether you are installing Day/Night shades in your home or in your RV, knowing a few simple steps will make hanging your new shades an easy project.
Decide how you will hang the shades. Most varieties offer an option to hang the shade either inside or outside the window opening. This determines where you will place the bracket on which your new shades will hang.
Install the mounting bracket. If you are hanging your Day/Night shades inside your window opening, place the bracket flat against the surface of the top window sill. You'll need a sill depth of approximately 1 3/4 inches. The center of the bracket (where you will screw it in) should be approximately 2 1/2 inches from the end of your window's opening. If you are mounting your shades outside the window's opening, place the bracket flush against the molding of the window or the wall above it. The area on which you install the bracket should be at least 3/4 inch wide. The center of the bracket should be approximately 2 1/2 inches from the end of your window's opening.
Unwind the shade's cord, leaving the rubber bands in place. Hold the shade up to the brackets and gently insert the bracket into the rail. You will notice that the shade's rail has a groove. This is where the bracket should rest.
Check your work. Ensure that your Day/Night shade is centered in the window's opening.
Attach the shade's rail into the bracket's back clips. Put your thumbs on the bottom back side of the top rail and push in a back-and-upward motion. You will feel the rail slip into place in the mounting bracket and hear a pop once it is in place.
