DIY Window Frosting

Frosting windows is something that is done for decoration, glare reduction or light reduction in certain parts of the home. Frosting a window is a useful task that can be done on any window that you have in your home. Doing window frosting yourself is possible only after the windows are prepared correctly and you have the proper materials needed.

Things You'll Need

  • Buckets
  • Vinegar
  • Water
  • Epsom salt
  • Can of beer
  • Foam paintbrush

Instructions

    • 1

Mix two cups water and one-cup vinegar in a small bucket or bowl. This mixture may be used to clean the window properly before applying the frosting. Use a rag or towel that will not leave lint on the window and work the solution all over the window’s surface by going in concentric circles. Do this over the entire area of the interior of the window.

Mix four tablespoons of Epsom salt with one full can of beer. Do this in a separate bowl or bucket. This amount of solution will provide the necessary amount of frosting for one average sized window. Let the mixture sit for around 30 minutes to an hour.

Use a foam paintbrush to apply the mixture evenly around the inside of the window. Swirl the mixture a little to keep it in motion each time you dip the brush so that it does not solidify too quickly in the bucket.

Let the frosting sit undisturbed for one to two days. This will ensure that the frosting is dried correctly, and will not flake off. Keep warm water away from the window to prevent melting.
