Andersen Replacement Window Installation

Andersen is a brand of windows. This company offers replacement window frames and replacement window pieces that can be used to simply replace existing ones. These replacement windows consist of windowpanes that can be fitted into a window that needs replacement. A sash replacement kit is the easiest way to install new windows, as long as the existing windows are level. Furthermore, most Anderson Replacement Windows are Energy Star certified products, so installation can save you money.
  1. Installation

    • When installing Andersen replacement windows, you can choose from either a double-hung insert replacement window or a double-hung, full-frame replacement window. Whichever of these types of replacement windows you choose, a sash kit is usually the easiest way to replace the window and frame. The first step to installation using a sash kit starts with measuring the dimensions of the existing frame. Since all windows have unique sizes that are proportional to the size of the room or the house, the window has to be measured first by measuring the dimensions of the existing frame from inside. Measure the length, width and height vertically, horizontally and diagonally.

Taking Out Old Windows and Inserting New

    • Remove the old window frame by removing the screws on the sash. The sash is slipped in between the window frame and glass, and attached to the liners. The liners themselves are fashioned to the sides of the window or to the "side jambs" as the pieces that hold the window in place are called.
The type of existing window determines the speed and ease of installation of the new one. If the existing window was also a window with a sash kit, liners and a window jamb, the job of fitting the new one is simpler. Simply pull out the top of the sash by pressing the jamb liners. Then, turn one side of the sash onto its side, so it breaks free of the jamb’s liners. If the old window is made up of aluminum or vinyl jambs, you will need to remove the jambs with the help of a flat bar. Insert the new window, and tighten the screws. Finally, seal any gaps with caulk.

    Other Tips

    • It is very important to install Andersen replacement window vertically, otherwise the glass can shatter due to too much pressure. It is also important to apply the right caulk both below and in the area around the window. Finally, make sure you use the right amount of insulation--as determined by the thickness of your window frame--as a little too less or too much can cause problems with the installation’s stability.
