How to Frost Plexiglas

Plexiglas can be frosted by applying a film, by etching it with acid or by sandblasting. The simplest way to achieve a frosted look is by using film. Films are usually applied with a squeegee, a spray bottle with water and a bit of soap. Depending on the film's backing and the size, it can be a little tricky to handle because of static. Water helps cut down on that problem.

Instructions

    • 1

Peel the paper protection from one side of the Plexiglas. It usually has protective paper adhered to both sides because it scratches easily.

    • 2

Use the spray bottle and squeegee the Plexiglas clean. Dust adheres to it quickly.

    • 3

Spray a thin layer of soapy water on the Plexiglas.

    • 4

Spray a bit of water on the film and start peeling the backing off. Spray a bit more water on the film as you remove the backing to help keep dust from clinging to it.

    • 5

Remove the backing and carefully set it in place on the Plexiglas.

    • 6

Squeegee the soapy water from under the film, starting in one corner and working over the entire piece of Plexiglas.
