Measure the width of the outer frame of the window and make a miter cut on each end of the casing. A miter cut is a 45-degree angle. Ensure that the bottom edge of the casing (edge closest to the window glass when installed) is equal to the width of the window.
Measure the left side of the outer frame from top to bottom and make a miter cut on the side of the casing which will be in the upper left corner. Repeat for the right side of the window.
Cut the bottom of both left and right trim pieces so they are flush with the sill (the bottom of the window). This angle varies, depending on the model window you have.
Predrill pilot holes 10 inches apart along the side pieces of casing.
Apply a continuous bead of silicone along the length of the notch that will be closest to the glass.
Attach with 1 1/2-inch galvanized screws in each of the pilot holes you drilled.
Install the head casing (top of window) and predrill through the side casing into the head casing. Do not drill through the head jamb of the window.
Remove the head casing and apply silicone as in step 2. Also apply silicone to the entire face of both mitered cuts. Reinstall head casing and attach with 1 1/2-inch galvanized screws through predrilled holes.
Seal all screws and joints with silicone and clean off excess.
