How to Install a Bathroom Window

Replacing a bathroom window not only provides energy-efficient savings, it also changes the visual element of your home. Yet if a new window is not properly installed, it can cause damage if it lets in water and makes the window difficult to use. A watertight window is key to a successful installation. Many styles, shapes and colors are available, and windows come in wood, aluminum and vinyl.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the space for the new window with a tape measure. When measuring, measure the height and the width of the window by measuring from top to bottom and from side to side.

    • 2

Remove the inside of the window and then remove the outside of the window, using a crowbar. Be careful when removing the window, to avoid damage to the walls. Thoroughly clean out all the window jambs and fill any holes with the caulk.

    • 3

Caulk the outside window jambs with a caulking gun. Install the sill angle. Attach the header to the window with the caulk gun.

    • 4

Insert the new window into the window frame. Use the level to determine if the window is placed straight. Drill the mounting screws in the window jamb on the top and bottom of the window.

    • 5

Inspect the sashes to make sure they slide smoothly. Caulk the inside of the window.
