Take off 1/8 inches of each side of your window frame using your miter saw. This will allow the overall size of your wood storm window frame to appear smaller than your actual window. The smaller frame will also make it easier for you to apply foam weather stripping in the succeeding steps.
Use your miter block to cut 45-degree angles at the ends of the wood. Make a slot measuring 1/16-inch thick using your router. The slot will hold your window’s glass in place during installation.
Install the slotted frame around your glass by fitting it into the slots. Use your wood screws to assemble the wood frame at every corner of your window. Tightly screw by turning the screws clockwise with your screwdriver. Apply wood glue at the corners of your wooden storm window to serve as reinforcement.
Use acrylic glass for the inside material of your wooden storm window. Make sure the glass has the same dimensions as the inside of the frame, including your slots’ depth.
Apply clear silicone caulk at the edges of the window frame to fully seal the glass. Do this to both sides of your window frame.
Use adhesive-back foam weather stripping for your wooden storm window to hold it in place during reinstallation. Press your window frame back into your window opening. Apply caulk around the outside area of your window frame and let it dry for two to three hours.
