How to Break SD-70 Tempered Glass

Used in countless vehicular, household and industrial applications, the overall design of SD-70 tempered glass keeps the relative safety of the users in mind. Unlike ordinary glass, tempered glass breaks into small pieces, leaving behind a pile of crumbled glass fragments instead of the large shards left behind by ordinary glass. This makes the disposal of tempered glass much easier for those wanting to get rid of the unwanted or damaged specimen. Disposers should take caution to avoid receiving cuts or other injuries during this process.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a large container in an outside area away from children and pets. Make sure the container is tall enough to contain the glass fragments as they fall down and spread out.

    • 2

Line the inside of the container with a plastic tarp. Make sure the tarp is large enough to cover the bottom and sides of the container. Lower the SD-70 tempered glass carefully into the container.

    • 3

Cover your hands and eyes with the proper safety apparel. Work gloves and safety glasses are necessary when performing this task.

    • 4

Stand alongside the end of the glass. Bring the hammer down on the edge of the glass while turning your face away from the glass. It may take two or more blows from the hammer to break the glass.

    • 5

Wait a few minutes for the glass fragments to finish fracturing into smaller pieces. Bag up the tarp and tie a piece of rope around the opening. Dispose of the glass fragments carefully.

    • 6

Sweep the area near the large container with a broom and dustpan. Dispose of any glass fragments.
