High Rise Building Repair: How to Replace the Sliding Windows at a Balcony

Keep your view overlooking the landscape from your high-rise building clear by replacing the sliding windows at your balcony. Sliding windows provide form and function as you get the benefits of a door plus a clear view of the city or surrounding areas. Whether it is a sliding window or door, the process is the same. The only difference is the size of the unit. Replace your sliding windows according to the American Architectural Manufacturers guidelines to ensure proper installation.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the opening of the sliding window, using a tape measure. Place the tape measure at the narrowest part between the window frames horizontally and vertically.

    • 2

Order replacement windows that are a 1/2 inch smaller than the dimensions. If the horizontal measurement is 40 inches by 38 inches, order windows with the dimensions of 39 1/2 inches by 37 1/2 inches.

    • 3

Unlock the sliding windows and slide one of the window sashes completely open.

    • 4

Lift the window upward and pull the bottom of the window toward you to remove it. Place the old window sash on a soft surface to prevent the glass from breaking.

    • 5

Hold the replacement window with both hands and insert the top of the replacement window into the top of the window frame. Angle the bottom of the window sash and push the window upward. Push the bottom of the window sash into the frame until it locks in place.

Repeat Steps 3 to 5 to replace the other sliding window.
