How to Fix a Crack in a Plastic Window

Plastic windows are durable surfaces, difficult to break or crack under most circumstances. When a crack does develop however, it’s important to repair the crack immediately to prevent its spreading through the window, or breaking the window entirely. Crack repair is simple with plastic windows, but though you can physically seal the crack, there is no way for you to hide the crack’s appearance, leaving the window marred along the cracked surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the plastic window with a mild liquid soap and water mixture using a sponge to remove any dirt present. Rinse with water and allow the window to dry.

    • 2

Drill two small holes into the plastic window, one at each end of the crack in the plastic, using an electric drill with a 1/16-inch drill bit. This will prevent the crack from growing.

    • 3

Fill an injector with a thin acrylic and plastics adhesive. Fill the crack all along its length with the adhesive, making certain that you inject the adhesive deep enough to go fully through. Wipe the adhesive from the surface of the window with a soft tissue to prevent it from forming a cloudy layer on the window.

Allow the adhesive to cure completely before touching the window. Curing times will vary according to adhesive type, so check the manufacturer’s instructions for your particular adhesive’s optimum curing period.
