Removing Windows from a Stucco House

Apply long strips of painter’s tape to the interior and exterior of the window glass, forming them into an "X" shape. This prevents the glass from falling out, in case you crack it during the removal process.

Stand on the interior side of the window and identify the side of the window pane that sits on the interior side of the track. Slide it open until you can grasp both sides and then lift upward slightly. Pull the bottom of the pane out of the track and then pull the top portion out of the track as well.

Walk to the outside of the home and look at the vertical metal bar in the center of the stucco window. Locate the screws at the top and bottom of the rail and remove them using a power drill. Grasp the rail and pull it out from the window, sliding it sideways first if required.

Slide the frame to the side and grasp either side of it. Lift it up and then out, just as you did with the interior portion to detach the pane from the frame.

Extend the blade from a utility knife and run it around the entire outside perimeter of the window frame to cut through any paint or silicone caulk.

Look at the inside left of the window frame to locate the screws that hold it in place. You may need to pry off plastic screw covers using a screwdriver to access the screws. Remove each screw using a power drill. Repeat the process of screw removal around the top, bottom and right side of the frame as well.

Ask another person to push out on the frame from inside the house while you pull it from the exterior.
