How to Use a Wall Chaser

When you want to install a recessed piece of furniture in a brick house, you will need a wall chaser to cut the specific wall area. A wall chaser looks like a hand-held circular saw but with a built-in dust extractor and a dry diamond-tipped blade. Though the blades can break after little wear, a wall chaser makes adding door frames or wall extractions easier with a guideline to follow and a steady pace.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay a tarp on the ground around the area that will be cut.

    • 2

Measure the wall and mark the corners of the space you need to cut out.

    • 3

Snap a chalk line from the corner mark to the floor to create a guideline.

    • 4

Attach the dust extractor to the wall chaser by twisting it to the tool base.

    • 5

Adjust the depth and width of the blade using the included wrench to loosen the flange nuts on the blade lock.

    • 6

Place the wall chaser at the top of the guideline 1/2 inch from the wall. The guideline must be visible in the notch or guide point on the front of the wall chaser at all times to guarantee a straight cut. Depress the trigger safety and hold it with your thumb.

    • 7

Press the trigger and begin the cut in a slow, downward motion along the guideline.

    • 8

Release the trigger and trigger safety. Allow the blade to come to a full stop before removing the wall chaser from the wall.

    • 9

Remove the brick between the two cut lines with a chisel.

    • 10

Continue to cut the area using the wall chaser and chisel.
