How to Build a Poured Solid Concrete Wall Reinforced With Rebar

Poured concrete walls are generally installed by professionals; but if you have the necessary equipment, it is possible to do it yourself with the help of a few assistants. Solid concrete walls are reinforced by steel rebar and wire mesh that run through the center of the wall. If you've already poured your concrete foundation with short rebar that extends upward every 3 feet along the future location of the wall, you can begin building the wall itself.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Stand a length of rebar equal to the height of the wall up against one of the shorter lengths of rebar set into the foundation. Use a battery-powered wire gun to secure the two sections of rebars together. Do the same for every piece of rebar in the foundation.

    • 2

Unroll wire mesh, stand it against the row of rebar and secure it to the sections with the wire gun. Place a plastic spacer wheel over a horizontal wire on the mesh every few feet to help keep the reinforcing mesh in the center of the wall.

Stand rows of aluminum wall framing panels up on both sides of the wall and lock them together with wall ties, latches or pins, depending on the panel type.

Mix concrete to as dry of a mixture as possible while still being fully malleable and pour it into the space between the aluminum panels. A cupful of properly-mixed concrete will slump to about half the height of the cup when dumped out. Insert roof anchors into the top of the wall, if applicable, while the concrete is still wet. Wait a week for the concrete to fully cure before removing the aluminum panels.
