How to Anchor a Bolt to a Block Wall

A block wall typically provides strength and longevity, but screwing or bolting items to the wall is often difficult. This problem is usually solved via the use of masonry anchors, which hold the screw tightly in place without damaging the wall or object. Choose an anchor that supports the weight of the object. Divide the total weight of the object by the number of anchors used to determine how much weight each anchor holds.

Instructions

    • 1

Rent a hammer-drill to bore the pilot holes for the anchors. Wear eye protection when operating the drill.

    • 2

Drill one or more pilot holes in the wall's surface. Drill the hole the same width and length as the anchors.

    • 3

Hammer the anchor in the hole using a hammer.

    • 4

Tighten the screw-top of the anchor. This opens and expands the device, fitting it tightly in the drilled hole.

    • 5

Screw the bolt into the anchor, securing the object to the block wall.
