How to Use Aircraft Cable

Aircraft cable is a type of galvanized wire rope. It is used to secure heavy objects or support an object hanging off of the ground. When a remodel is planned for your home, you can use the aircraft cable to hang tools and materials up from the floor. This will require you to span a length of cable across two opposing walls. You then need to attach and tension the cable.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure up one side of a wall with the tape measure. Make a mark for the height of the cable up off of the floor with the pencil. Repeat this step on the opposite wall.

    • 2

Find the studs in the wall with the stud finder. Drill a pilot hole into the wall stud with the power drill.

    • 3

Insert the threaded eye hooks into the holes and turn to tighten. Tighten the eye hooks fully by using pliers.

    • 4

Insert the open end of the turnbuckle to each hook.

    • 5

Insert one end of the cable into the eye hook of a turnbuckle. Make a loop on the end of the wire and attach the wire rope clip. Tighten the nuts on the wire rope clip with the wrench. Repeat this step to secure the cable to the other wall.

Tighten the turnbuckles with the screwdriver to tension the cable.
