How to Figure the Cubic Feet of a Straight Wall

A straight wall is a three-dimensional object called a rectangular prism. This rectangular prism can contain a certain volume of air, water, gases, dust, or other material. The volume of a three-dimensional object such as a rectangular prism is often measured in cubic feet.

Calculating the volume of a straight wall requires that you know the wall’s length, width (or depth), and height. These measurements must be converted into a measurement unit that is common to all three sides – such as expressing 6 inches as 1/2 foot, for example – and multiplying the measurements of the three sides together.

      Use the measuring tape to measure the height, width (or depth) and length of the wall. Write these measurements down.

      Convert the wall measurements into one common unit of measurement, preferably feet rather than inches. For example, if the wall is 5 feet 6 inches tall, write the measurement down as 5.5 feet.

      Multiply the height measurement by the width measurement, and then multiply the product of these two numbers by the length measurement. This will yield the volume of the wall in cubic feet.
