Painting Over a Suede Textured Wall

Suede textured walls are a common wall finish in many homes. As homeowner tastes change, these walls are painted over with latex paint. The walls are not difficult to paint. Homeowners who do not like the suede texture can spend time lightly sanding the walls. However, the walls do not need to be sanded to paint them properly. As long as high nap rollers are used during the painting process the texturing should be easy to cover with regular latex paint.

Instructions

    • 1

Set drop cloths on the floor beneath the suede textured walls. Use blue painters tape to tape moldings and any other areas that you do not want painted.

    • 2

Pour primer into a painters tray. Roll a high nap paint roller into the primer. Roll the primer onto the walls in a “w” motion. The high nap paint roller will ensure that the primer reaches into the textured areas of the wall. Cover the entire suede textured wall with the primer. Let the primer dry completely.

    • 3

Pour latex paint into a painters tray. Roll a high nap paint roller into the latex paint. Cover the walls with the latex paint by rolling the paint on the wall in a “w” motion. Let the paint dry completely.

    • 4

Paint a second coat of latex paint on the wall. Let the paint dry and repeat as necessary.

    • 5

Remove the painters tape and drop clothes from the walls and floor.
