How to Install Polyurethane Foam Sheets Onto a Concrete Wall

Insulating concrete walls is an important part of conserving energy. In fact, many localities require insulation for concrete basement walls. Polyurethane foam sheets are designed for this purpose. These sheets are fairly inexpensive and relatively straightforward to install. Before installing the sheets, it is necessary to first install vertical furring strips onto the wall. The sheets fit between these strips.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the height and width of the wall with a measuring tape.

    • 2

Cut furring strips to match the height of the wall with a saw. The number of furring strips needed depends on the width of the wall. Furring strips should not spaced more than 24 inches apart. For example, if the wall is 6 feet wide, you will need a minimum of three furring strips.

    • 3

Apply a bead of construction adhesive to the back of the furring strips, then press the strips onto the wall vertically.

    • 4

Cut the foam sheets to match the distance between the furring strips with an insulation-board saw.

    • 5

Apply panel adhesive to one side of the foam sheets with a caulking gun. It is not necessary to cover the entire sheet with adhesive.

    • 6

Press the foam sheets between the furring strips with the adhesive facing the wall.
