How to Glue Drywall

Hanging drywall is not a complicated task. The typical way to fasten drywall to a surface is with nails or screws. However, in some situations, this is not a viable option, such as on cement or brick walls. In these types of circumstances you can glue drywall instead of using nails or screws. Gluing drywall to a surface is a common practice among professionals, and you can accomplish the same result using the proper product and applicator.

  Use a scrub brush and soapy water to clean the surface onto which the drywall will be glued.

  Slice the end of the nozzle on a tube of construction adhesive at a 45-degree angle using a utility knife. Poke the foil cover at the bottom of the nozzle using the metal rod attached to the caulk gun. Place the tube in the caulk gun cradle and push the plunger into the back of it. Turn the plunger handle 180-degrees and push the release button on the trigger.

  Lay the drywall on the ground with the paper side down. Lower the caulk gun onto the surface of the drywall with the angled end of the nozzle flat against it. Pull the trigger and apply the construction adhesive to the back of the drywall in swirling lines several inches apart over the entire surface. Keep the adhesive within three inches of the edges of the drywall. Let the adhesive set for 10 minutes.

  Place the drywall on the wall and press your hands firmly over the entire surface for 30 seconds to ensure the adhesive sticks. Allow the adhesive to dry for overnight before taping and mudding the drywall.
