How to Paint an Archway Into Another Room

Lay a drop cloth on the floor. Open windows and turn on fans for proper ventilation. Open the paint can and mix the paint.

Tape off any special features your arch has, such as wooden panels, that you do not wish to paint.

Pour a small amount of paint into a plastic cup or small paint tray. Dampen the paintbrush. Cut in the area where the archway meets the ceiling and the corners where each side of the archway connects to the adjoining wall.

Pour any paint remaining in your plastic cup or small paint tray into the large paint tray. Add paint from the can until the bottom of the paint tray holds approximately ½ inch of paint.

Attach the paint roller to the roller bar. Roll the paint roller slowly through the paint in the tray until the roller is saturated.

Roll the paint onto the archway in slow and even strokes – the same way you would apply paint to a wall without an arch. Let the paint cure for 72 hours.

Add a second coat of paint or paint in any special details you want your arch to have, such as climbing ivy or stencils that mesh well with the room's décor. Remove any painter's tape after the paint dries completely.

Paint the other side of the arch in the same manner.
