How to Install Beadboard on Crawl Space Walls

Beadboarding refers actually to a technique, as well as to the effect it produces on walls. Beadboard is made up of small strips of wood that are joined together and nailed to a wall. Today's manufacturing processes have made it possible to create panels that look like beadboard, but are much more economical and easy to install. This type of paneling can be used for crawl space walls, with a few modifications.

Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Circular saw (with a fresh blade)
  • Beadboard panels
  • Hammer

Instructions

    • 1

Measure out the first area for the beadboard. Crawl space walls may be oddly shaped. If they have weird angles or corners, create a template for the space with a sheet of cardboard.

    • 2

Cut the beadboard panel to fit the area. Use a circular saw with a fresh blade (this keeps the edges from being jagged) and slowly run the board through the saw. Do not overfeed the wood through the saw. Keep your fingers away from the blade and wear eye protection and gloves.

    • 3

Nail up the first panel. Use a nail gun if you have one; otherwise, just use a regular hammer. Insert at least one nail every eight to 12 inches into the wall joists through the paneling.

    • 4

Continue installing the panels. It is best to go one panel at a time due to the small space and the potentially odd shape of the crawl space. Work until all the panels have been installed.
