Connect the wall boards directly to the wall’s studs with a screwdriver and Durock tile backer screws. The boards must be spaced 1/8-inch apart to allow for changes i the weather.
Fill the spaces between boards with latex-fortified mortar. The simplest way to fill the joints is by pressing the mortar into place with a putty knife.
Press alkaline-resistant fiberglass mesh directly into the mortar and make sure it is completely embedded in the mortar. If necessary, spread a little more mortar over the top of the fiberglass. You can immediately install your desired tile or other finishing surface over the boards.
