How to Do Moulding Around Bullnose Edges

Since a bullnose corner has a round edge instead of a square edge, special considerations must be taken to install molding around it. If you were to miter two molding pieces to 45 degrees and install it over the bullnose corner, you would be left with a rather large gap between the molding and the corner. To eliminate this gap, a small rectangular piece of molding is installed between the two pieces of molding. Fit the rectangle snug between the two pieces of molding by mitering each piece at a lesser angle.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Miter saw

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length of wall from the last piece of installed molding to the bullnose corner. Transfer this measurement to a piece of molding and make a mark.

    • 2

Swivel a miter saw's cutting blade to a 22 1/2-degree angle (half of a 45-degree angle). Set the molding flat on the miter saw's table and cut through the mark.

    • 3

Set a new piece of molding on the miter saw's table. Cut a sliver off one of the molding's ends, just enough to angle that end. Measure 3/4-inch along the molding from the mitered end and make a mark. Flip the molding around and cut through the mark.

    • 4

Place the first piece of molding against the appropriate wall, with one end snug against the last piece of installed molding. Drive finishing nails through the molding and into the wall's base plate with a pneumatic nail gun.

    • 5

Spread wood glue on one of the small piece's mitered ends. Fit one end tight against the mitered end of the last piece of molding. Measure along the wall on the other side of the corner from the small piece.

    • 6

Set a new piece of molding on the miter saw table. Cut off a sliver from one end, just enough to miter that end to a 22 1/2-degree angle. Transfer the measurement you got in Step 5 to this piece of molding, measuring from the mitered end.

    • 7

Set the molding against the wall, with its mitered end pressed against the small piece's mitered end. Secure the molding in place with finishing nails.
