How to Build a Lattice Wall on a Cement Porch

Cement porches are strong, weatherproof structures that may make changing the look of the porch difficult. Even adding decorations such as a lattice wall on a cement porch is a chore. The usual construction method when putting up a decorative or functional structure on a cement porch is to drill many holes into the cement. It also takes specialized tools to drill the holes in cement and install special screws. An alternative method is required when the lattice wall is temporary or when holes in the cement are not desired.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the cement porch area with soap and water where the lattice wall is going to be constructed. Rinse the surface off with clean water and allow the area to dry completely. Measure the area with a tape measure and mark every 24 inches off with a pencil.

Cut as many spacers as there are marks with a saw. A spacer is a 2-inch section cut off of an end of a 2-inch-by-4-inch board. Spread a layer of construction adhesive designed for heavy-duty construction on the back of a spacer and push it against the pencil marks. Spacers keep the lattice work away from the wall so there is access to the back for threading plants or Christmas lights through the lattice wall.

Allow the construction adhesive to dry completely for at least 24 hours. Line the lattice work pieces up to the edge of the porch and secure them to the spacers with 1-inch wood screws and an electric screwdriver. Once all the places where the lattice work touches the spacers are attached, put the next piece of lattice work next to the first so there is no space between pieces. Finish the wall by attaching the rest of the lattice pieces.
