About Slatwall Panels

Slatwall panels are a common fixture in stores, allowing retailers to make the most of their wall space. The walls are comprised of thin plastic slat panels fitted closely together; the narrow spaces in between allow employees to add hooks, baskets, signs, shelves and other display features wherever they please.
  1. Basics

    • Slatwall is special-ordered to the retailer's size specifications. When ordering slatwall, the store may also need to buy add-ons like T-shaped plastic inserts, which add more color to the display, or color-groove adhesives that can change the color of the slatwalls. It's also important to have the right tools when installing slatwall; the slatwall company should be able to sell you everything you need, including drywall, sheet metal and trim screws.

    Materials

    • Slatwalls are made of a variety of materials, and come in countless colors. Popular slatwall materials include mirror glass, fiberboard, low-pressure laminate and high-pressure laminate. Fiberboard is a common choice for retailers who aren't planning on placing heavy items on the walls; it is also one of the most economical choices. High- and low-pressure laminate slatwalls can hold a heavier load and come in a greater range of colors and patterns. Mirror slatwall is by far the most expensive choice.

    Advantages

    • Slatwall panels come in handy for many retailers, especially those who have seasonal display needs that are constantly changing. Instead of installing heavy, permanent display items like wall-mounted shelves that will be difficult to move and can cause damage to your wall, slatwall allows you to quickly change out an old display for something new. The countless customization options allow flexibility, and can readily transform the look and layout of your store.

    Similar Products

    • Slatwall panels aren't just for your walls: most slatwall manufacturers also sell stand-alone fixtures made of slatwall. These displays -- which come in all sorts of shapes and configurations -- can add a new spatial layout in your store, filling the center of the floor. Look for slatwall configurations with built-in shelves and hanger rails. A similar option is the cubewall; a cubewall looks like a slatwall but gives a wall a checkered appearance.
