How to Build a Library Wall

Whether you're an avid reader or you simply need extra storage, create a library wall to store your books, personal treasures or a combination of the two. Install wall-mounted shelves onto a blank wall in any room in your home, giving the wall the look of a library or an attractive display piece. Mount as many shelves as you desire for this functional storage space.

Things You'll Need

  • Stud finder
  • Pencil
  • Wall-mounted shelving kit
  • Drill
  • 2-inch wood screws

Instructions

      Determine where the studs are inside the chosen wall with a stud finder. Upon finding the studs, mark their location with a pencil.

      Position the metal wall brackets against the wall on top of the pencil marks. Place a level across the top of the brackets and along the outer edges of the brackets to ensure they are positioned evenly.

      Insert a 2-inch wood screw through each of the holes on the back of the metal brackets. Drill the screws into the wall, securing the brackets in place.

      Attach the shelf brackets into the slits on the back of the each of the wall brackets. Place the brackets so that they are even with one another on each wall bracket.

      Place the shelves on top of the shelf brackets.
