How to Cut Beadboard Around Cabinets

If you want to cover your kitchen walls, but you don't want to remove your existing kitchen cabinetry, you'll have to do a little extra cutting. While it's always best to put wall material behind cabinetry, you can take a shortcut by trimming it to fit around the area. Beadboard paneling is ideal since it's typically less than 1/2 inch wide so it won't create too much of an overlap on top of your cabinetry.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the width and height of the cabinets with a measuring tape. Write down these measurements.

    • 2

Trace out the measurements on the back of a beadboard panel with a pencil. This will be your cut line. Unless your cabinets are more than 4 feet high and 8 feet wide, you can use one panel of beadboard. Otherwise, you'll need to use two panels to cover the space.

    • 3

Cut the beadboard with a circular saw. Don't push the panel through the saw, as this will rip the edges. Have someone else hold the end of the panel while you feed it through the saw to balance it.

    • 4

Fit the beadboard around the cabinets. If your measurements were right on, you won't need to trim the panel to fit.

    • 5

Nail the panel into place. Color matched finishing nails will blend with the panel. Place one nail every 8 to 12 inches vertically, on the wall studs.
