How to Seal a Cement Walkway

You can extend the life of your concrete walkway with sealant, which will prevent the absorption of water by the porous material. As water gets into concrete and later evaporates, it can leave behind corrosive materials such as salts and acids. The sealant will protect your concrete walkway and keep it looking like new for many years.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of your walkway. Multiply the length by the width to come up with the square footage. This will guide you as you decide how much sealant to buy.

    • 2

Don protective clothing and goggles. Concrete sealant contains hazardous chemicals that can harm exposed skin.

    • 3

Dip your roller into the liquid sealant. Roll the sealant onto the concrete evenly.

    • 4

Allow at least 24 hours to dry before walking on the concrete.
