How to Use a Fresno Trowel

The fresno trowel is a steel trowel attached to a handle with a hustler float bracket. This trowel is used in hard-to-access areas or large areas of concrete where a traditional hand trowel floating is not possible. Multiple handles can be added to the fresno trowel to extend its reach up to 20 to 30 feet. Because no pressure can be applied, fresno troweling techniques will not provide the hardness or durability of repeated hand troweling of the concrete.

  Check the wet concrete to ensure there is no standing surface moisture. Surface moisture is water that has risen to the surface of just-poured concrete. In the industry, this is known as bleed water.

  Lay the trowel flat on the surface of the concrete and push it forward over the surface of the concrete. Keep feeding the handle forward until it is as far away as it will reach.

  Twist the handle to the left to lift the hustler float bracket, which will lift the back edge of trowel. Begin pulling the trowel back toward you, and immediately twist the handle toward the right to flatten it against the concrete.

  Pull the handle all the way back until the trowel is at the edge of the concrete. Lift the trowel and move it over several inches. Repeat the process until the entire surface has been troweled.
