How to Use the Pathmate Form to Make a Walkway

Custom walkways can carry a hefty price tag when you have a contractor install them. Do-it-yourselfers have a less expensive option to get a custom look. Pathmate forms simplify walkway construction allowing you to create charming paths in your landscape. The 2-foot by 2-foot square forms are made of recycled plastic and are available in the shape of bricks or flagstones. Unlike traditional cement or stone sidewalks, Pathmate forms require a minimum of ground preparation and materials. The mold uses one 80-lb bag of cement and makes a 4-foot square section of walkway, 1 ¾ inches deep.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a tape measure, string and stakes to lay out the walkway area. Prepare the ground by removing approximately 1 inch of soil. Smooth out the surface area.

    • 2

Mix a bag of cement with water in a container or wheelbarrow. Incorporate water thoroughly with a hoe or shovel until the wet cement is no longer crumbly and will hold its shape when formed into a ball. Take care not to make the cement too wet. Mix one bag of cement at a time.

    • 3

Set the Pathmate mold in place and fill the cavities with wet cement. Let stand a minute or two until the cement will hold its shape. Remove the mold and place it for the next section.

    • 4

Repeat from Step 1 until the walkway is complete. Remove the stakes and string guides. Allow the sections to cure for at least 48 hours before using the walkway.
