Instructions

  1. Place a Fence Around the Area

    • 1

Measure the area where the concrete will be poured.

    • 2

Rent or buy enough chain link fence to span the perimeter of the area. Temporary chain link fence comes in two types: in-ground and panel. An in-ground fence must be pounded into the ground. A panel fence rests above the ground on special supports.

    • 3

Install your chain link fence. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. If you need help, many chain link fence rental companies will install the fence for you.

    • 4

Test the fence to ensure it's sturdy. If it seems wobbly, as if it could be easily pushed over by a dog jumping on it, reinforce the areas where the fence is secured to the ground.

    • 5

Place signs on the fence that read "wet concrete." It won't keep out dogs but makes humans aware.

    • 6

Remove the fence once the concrete is dry. Fill in any holes that you may have created while installing the fence.

    Contain the Dog

    • 7

Find an area away from the concrete to contain the dog. If the area being worked on is part of the dog's living quarters, move the dog to another area until the concrete is set and cured.

    • 8

Create a containment area for the dog. You can create a tie out by hammering a stake into the ground and securing a cable or chain to it, or you can erect a fenced enclosure with a portable chain link fence.

    • 9

Secure the dog in its new area. Ensure that the animal has sufficient food and water. Check on the dog occasionally to be sure of its well-being.

    • 10

Remove the dog from its temporary confinement once the concrete has dried completely.
