How to Rig a Split Curtain System

A split curtain system has two curtain panels attached to the same traverse rod. When the rod cord is pulled, the left panel opens to the left and the right panel opens to the right. Rigging this system merely requires the right traverse rod components because some traverse rods are designed for single panels and move in one direction. Make sure you have a double traverse rod for a split curtain system.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the rod up to the window 1 inch above the window top. Have an assistant help you and hold a level to make sure the rod is straight. Mark the left and right edge where the rod will end, allowing 2 inches on each side so the rod taps into the support frame around the window.

    • 2

Set the rod on the ground. Locate the designated bracket mounts on the back. Measure the distance between each end and bracket mount and then to the next bracket mount.

    • 3

Measure the bracket locations on the wall by matching the distance from the end of the rod to the bracket mount to the end marks on the wall. Hold the bracket in place and mark the screw holes.

    • 4

Drill the bracket screw holes 1/8-inch deep. Mount the brackets with the screws provided by the rod manufacturer.

    • 5

Hang the rod on the brackets. Most brackets contain a curved end the wraps around the front of the rod. Check the rod with a level to make sure it is straight.

    • 6

Attach the drapes or curtain panels to the panel hooks handing from the rod.
