Instructions

    • 1

Sweep the stairs to remove all loose debris.

    • 2

Clean the stairs with warm, soapy water. Use a rag to clean and wipe up excess water. Allow the stairs to dry thoroughly.

    • 3

Measure the width of the stair treads and the carpet tread pieces with a tape measure. Subtract the width of the carpet treads from the width of the stair treads and divide by two. Use this measurement to measure from inward one side of the stair tread. Use a pencil to mark this location, which is the edge for your carpet tread.

    • 4

Peel the backing off the carpet tread. Align the edge of the carpet with the mark on the stair tread and press in place. If the carpet treads are not self-sticking, cut sheets of double-sided carpet tape that are slightly shorter than the width of the carpet treads. Peel the paper off one side of the tape. Apply the tape to the stair tread, using your measurement from Step 3. Peel off the tape's top piece of paper lay your carpet tread in position.

    • 5

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for each stair tread.
