Instructions

    • 1

Measure the dimensions of the bedroom, so you can accurately arrange and decorate the room. Record the measurement on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Sketch out the shape and look of the bedroom in a sketchbook. This doesn't have to be an artist's rendition or anything fancy; just something that adequately shows the room's shape. This can be on the same piece of paper as the dimensional measurements.

Divide the bedroom with a series of Shoji screens. These portable dividers come in a wide array of shapes, sizes, textures and designs. One or two may be enough to divide a single room, or you could use more if needed.

The beauty of using Shoji screens, as opposed to ceiling hanging dividers, is that they can be arranged geometrically so as to provide roommates access to the room as well as privacy. They're also temporary and require no construction. In addition to these benefits, the Shoji screen serves as a nifty structure for hanging clothes and accessories.

Place a twin-sized bed on either side of the room, which is separated by Shoji screens. This provides the siblings with their own private areas. Decorate each side of the room as if it were a different room entirely. If one sibling likes pink, and the other likes blue, decorate each side to reflect what they prefer. Allow them to choose what kind of bedding and decor pieces suit their tastes to help make them feel more at home.
