Hot to Make a Canopy Bed

While they look beautiful and luxurious, canopy beds can be very expensive. Luckily, transforming an ordinary bed into a canopy bed is easy and fun, and can very dramatically change the look of a bedroom. It costs just a few dollars for fabric to create the romantic look of a canopy bed and if you later decide you don't want it anymore, you don't have to buy a new bed.

Take measurements. Before you can go and purchase your materials you will need to know how much material you will need. Mark out the position for each of the rings, which will need to go in each corner of the bed. Measure the distance between each of the rings and then measure the floor to ceiling height.

Gather materials. For the hardware you can choose any kind of ring you like. Just make sure they are big enough drape the fabric through and you have some way to secure them to the ceiling. Consider going for decorative curtain hooks. For the fabric, you will need eight separate pieces of material. Four pieces of material will be for the vertical drapes, cut to the floor-to-ceiling measurement, plus an extra 12 inches for hemming and puddling at the bottom. The remaining four lengths of fabric will be cut to twice the length you measured between each ring. These will be tied to the top. Doubling the measurements lets you make sure they drape correctly. The fabric you choose will depend on the look you want to create and how well the fabric hangs.

Install the four rings in the ceiling at each corner of your bed. However, before installing, tap a wall anchor into each of the areas where you plan to hang a ring for better support.

Drape the fabric through the rings. If necessary, hem the fabric prior to hanging. Take each of the four pieces of material that will hang at the top. Tie one end to a ring, then drape across to the next ring, secure in place with a knot and repeat. When you have a fabric rectangle on the ceiling, take the remaining four pieces that will hang down. Tie one vertical piece of fabric to one ring and let it hang down, arranging how the drapes fall and pool at the bottom. Then simply repeat with the other vertical curtains.
