Bathroom & Laundry Renovations

Though we spend countless hours in both, the style and design of our bathrooms and laundry rooms are often neglected. Rather than drab and disorganized, these rooms can be light, functional and appealing. Sometimes a few changes to the lighting, color scheme, fixtures or appliances can add the functional and stylistic lift a bathroom or laundry room needs.
  1. Bathroom Lighting

    • Though we often try to use a single light to illuminate our entire bathroom, a lighting mix offers greater function and appeal. Using task lighting around the vanity and bath areas and ambient lighting can softly illuminate the entire bathroom. To create ambiance for relaxing soaks in the tub, put a dimmer switch on your ambient lighting.

    Shower Enclosures

    • To open up the look of a small bathroom, try using clear glass shower enclosures. They not only offer the appearance of space, but showcase decorative tile and fixtures within the shower as well.

    Bathroom Color

    • Using light color schemes, such as whites and cremes, is an easy way to give the illusion of space to a small bathroom.

    Vanity

    • One of the major focal points of the bathroom, an upgraded vanity is a great way to rejuvenate the look of your bathroom. The vanity area is also one of the busiest areas in your bathroom, sometimes accommodating more than one person at a time. If you have the space, you may want to consider a double vanity for added convenience.

    Laundry Room Appliances

    • Functionality is what a laundry room is all about, therefore, upgrading your washer and dryer for quality and energy-efficiency (if needed) is an essential renovation step. If you have a large family with a lot of laundry, Renovation Design Group suggests purchasing a second dryer to keep up with the pace of shorter wash cycles. With modern front-load washers, appliances can now be stacked to accommodate an extra machine.

    Laundry Room Layout

    • Design your laundry room layout to accommodate how you work. Place sorting bins close your sink and washing machine, and your folding table near your dryer.

    Laundry Room Lighting

    • Laundry rooms are often poorly lit, making them cheerless and difficult to work in. Combine good overhead lighting with some task lighting in folding and sorting areas.

    Laundry Room Color

    • There’s no reason for your laundry room to be dull and drab. Extend the color scheme of adjoining rooms into your laundry room as well. A little paint will go a long way in making your laundry room a more pleasant place to be.

    Extras

    • A laundry room is a great place to add perks such as a music system, television, DVD player and mini fridge.
