How to Make Wall Paint Glaze

Paint glazes work well for making decorative effects on walls. The base in the glaze dries slowly, so there is plenty of time for creating beautiful effects on walls using sponges, brushes or rags. The transparent paint lets colors painted under the glaze show through, so it adds a richer look to the finished wall. When a person makes a glaze mixture, the translucency is easily altered. Glazes are transparent or translucent, depending on how much glaze base is added to the mixture. If more glaze base is added, the glaze becomes more transparent.

Instructions

  1. Paint Glaze Using A Latex Glaze Base

    • 1

Add a few drops of colorant at a time to the paint until you get the desired color. Stir the paint thoroughly so there aren't any streaks in the color.

    • 2

Mix four parts latex glaze base to one part latex paint mixture in a container. If you use 4 cups of glaze base, add 1 cup of the paint mixture. Stir the paint and glaze mixture until it is blended thoroughly.

    • 3

Add 1 extra cup of latex glaze base to the mixture if you need a thinner glaze. If you want it really thin, add a second cup of latex glaze base. Stir the mixture, and it is ready for use.
