How to Design a Freestanding Room Divider

Whether you are giving your kids a privacy screen for their room or you need one to offer a guest sleeping in your living room some privacy, a freestanding room divider is just what you need. You could buy a freestanding room divider from a furniture store, but you'd pay through the nose. Instead, consider collecting some old materials, such as doors or wood planks, and utilizing those to build your own.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand down the wood to remove any splinters, stains and impurities as well as any residues. Wipe the wood down with a clean, moist rag after sanding to remove any sawdust.

    • 2

Cover each panel in a coat of primer and allow to completely dry.

    • 3

Paint each panel with your desired color and allow to fully dry.

    • 4

Attach casters (wheels that go under and add stability) to the bottom of each panel, using your drill to make a pilot hole and then screwing them into place.

    • 5

Install hinges to the sides of the panels so that the entire room divider can be folded up and set aside as needed.
