How Do I Use a Float Sub Pump?

Submersible pumps are handy devices to have around to move unwanted water from one location to another. Regardless of the brand or model of pump you have they all work in a similar manner. A submersible pump is directly placed inside the water where its float activates the pumping mechanism. The water is moved, via a pipe, to a safe discharge location. Choosing a place to move the water is important because you don't want to create a cycle where the water flows back to its original location.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a discharge location for the water. This is ideally at least 10 feet from any building and in a location where the grade slopes away from the foundation.

    • 2

Run the garden hose from the discharge location to the water you want to remove.

    • 3

Screw the garden hose into the end of the submersible pump.

    • 4

Run the pump's electrical cord to the nearest outlet. If the cord is not long enough, tie an extension cord to the pump's cord in a knot and push the plug into the end of the extension cord.

    • 5

Support the electrical cord connection in a way that prevents it from being pulled back into the water. This is done by tying the cord to a stable object. Plug the end of the cord into the wall outlet.

    • 6

Monitor both the pump and the discharge location to assure the water is moving away from the building and the pump is positioned properly in the water.
