Determine the type of sandpaper and profile attachment for your project. The diamond-shaped pads allow for the direct attachment of sandpaper, and the pad is attached to the sander. Pads take either hook and loop sandpaper sheets or sandpaper with pressure-sensitive adhesive. Sanding plates allow the attachment of profiles -- shapes such as concave or convex -- to which PSA sandpaper pieces are then attached. The PSA sandpaper comes in either pre-cut pieces to fit the pads or rolls for cut-to-fit profile applications.
Attach your chosen attachments and sanding materials. You can use either pre-sized sandpaper sheets of either type attached to the appropriate pad type or a profile attached to a plate with PSA sandpaper applied to the profile.
Attach the sanding attachment to the 9444 sander. The attachments have two posts. One post goes into into the slot in the bottom of the sander. The other post is locked in place by the spring-loaded button on the front of the sander. Push the button to allow the front post to move into the proper position or to release the post to remove the attachment. The sander is now ready to be used.
Plug in the sander and turn it on by pressing the power rocker switch. The "I" on the switch is the on position and the "O" is the off position. Hold the sander away from the work surface when you turn it on.
Sand your work surface, letting the sander do the work. The sander should be held in one hand and the weight of the sander is all of the pressure necessary for sanding. The sanding head vibrates in an in-line direction, so sand with the grain for the smoothest finish or across wood grain for the fastest removal of material.
