Miter Size for a Hitachi Table Saw C10FR

For the home woodworker, a table saw is an indispensable tool. The blade of a circular saw sticks up through a slot in the table allowing you to make cuts while the work surface supports the lumber. One of Hitachi's discontinued table saws is the C10FR, an inexpensive and quiet model. The C10FR performs a variety of cuts needed in woodworking including mitering.
  1. Miter Specifications

    • The Hitachi C10FR features a 10-inch blade. The blade tilt angle ranges from 45 degrees to 90 degrees. The maximum length of cut that can be made at an angle is 24 inches. At 90 degrees, the maximum cut depth is 3-1/8 inches, but at 45 degrees, this drops to 2-1/2 inches. The table portion of the15 horsepower table saw itself measures 26-1/16 inches by 19-21/64 inches and can be extended 2 inches to the right and 2 inches to the back.

    Miter Gauge Safety

    • The C10FR includes a miter gauge. This accessory allows you to set the angle at which you want to cut your wood. The miter gauge attaches to the table portion of the table saw. When making any cuts using the miter gauge, be sure the gauge is firmly attached and that you hold the wood tight against the gauge. It is unsafe to make miter cuts without the miter gauge in place. When not in use, the miter gauge stores on the side of the C10FR.

    Mitering

    • When you miter a piece of wood, you cut with the grain and adjust the wood so it is at an angle other than 90 degrees to the table saw. On the C10FR, once you've securely installed the miter gauge, you'll adjust the gauge to the desired cutting angle. As you hold the piece of wood against the gauge, slowly push the wood along the blade. Pushing slowly keeps the cut smooth and straight.

    Crosscutting Vs. Ripping

    • Crosscutting is making a cut that goes along the grain of your piece of wood, as opposed to cutting against the grain, which is called ripping. When using the C10FR for crosscutting, you will use the miter gauge to hold the wood at the desired cutting angle. When ripping using the C10FR, you must remove the miter gauge and install the rip fence. This fence protects your hands and helps keep the wood from kicking back.
