Unlike a standard miter saw, a tile saw has a blade and rotation specifically designed to effectively cut tile. Many types of tile are less durable than wood and can break easily during the cutting process. A tile saw ensures a precision cut on tile if used properly at a variety of angles.
The arbor sits on a cutting board and has a long, narrow gap to allow for a straight-line cut. The arbor's size is generally determined by the size of the saw blade. The Felker TM-75 tile saw comes with a standard arbor size of 5/8 inch, or 15.9 millimeters. The depth of the cut it makes is 1 5/8 inches, or 41 millimeters. All Felker tile saws come with a standard arbor size of 5/8 inch, or 15.9 millimeters, except the FTS-50 portable 5-inch tile saw. The arbor on this Felker model measures 7/8 inch, or 22.2 millimeters.
The Felker tile saw has a guide bar with self-cleaning rollers to ensure a precision cut. The patented guide ensures the guide rollers don’t become caked with dirt. Other saws require routine maintenance to clean slide bearings. If the side bearings are not cleaned regularly, the tile saw can become damaged, affecting the cut.
A ¾-horsepower saw, the model TM-75 offers 4.5 amps and runs at 3,300 rotations per minute. A folding stand can be purchased with the saw to allow users to cut with the saw while standing. The blade’s capacity is 8 inches, or 200 millimeters. Felker manufactures a variety of other saws including hand saws, rail saws and stone rail saws.
