Turn the compound miter saw off and unplug the machine from the power source.
Place the saw on a sturdy, level surface.
Raise the saw to its highest position keeping your hand on the handle to keep the saw from springing upward.
Lock the saw arm into its highest position by engaging the locking pin. The locking pin is usually located at the back of the saw arm. This same locking pin locks the saw arm into the downward position for storing and transporting the saw.
Raise the lower blade guard so that it rests above the blade and exposes the cover plate. On some models, you must first loosen the blade guard to enable it to swing upward and out of the way. In most cases, this requires the use of a Philips screwdriver.
Loosen the cover plate screw using the Philips screwdriver and rotate it toward the back of the saw to expose the arbor bolt.
Locate the arbor or spindle lock button. Press and hold this button while rotating the blade clockwise until you feel and hear the lock engage. Continue to hold the lock button.
Using the supplied manufacturer's blade wrench, turn the bolt counterclockwise until completely loosened.
Remove the arbor bolt, outer blade flange (or washer) by pulling straight out from the saw blade. Pay close attention when removing these parts to ensure proper reinstallation.
Remove the saw blade by sliding it off the spindle. Avoid contact with the blade teeth.
Leave the inner blade flange (or washer) in place.
Clean any accumulated sawdust from all parts.
