Determine the size of your tool chest drawer where the socket organizer will be housed by measuring the width, depth and height of its interior with a measuring tape.
Place the new socket set organizer, which can be purchased online at such sites as Sears.com, eBay.com or at your local hardware store, in the tool box drawer. If you purchase a standup organizer (the sockets stand up instead of clipping into place on their side), make sure the holes are on the top side, not resting on the bottom of the drawer.
Insert your sockets by size and type, grouping metric and standard sockets separately from smallest to largest. Additionally, group the extension arms, reducers and other miscellaneous components in similar groups for quick access.
Label each hole with the size or component abbreviation, using a permanent marker. This ensures you always place the same socket component in the same hole, so you can enjoy a highly organized socket set.
