Instructions for the Chicago Heavy Duty 4-1/2 Angle Grinder

Chicago makes a line of tools do the same job as more expensive tools, but at a more affordable price. These tools use a grinding disc to work on material from masonry, metal or welds, and spins it at a high speed. To do this, install the grinding disc, then use the tool properly to get the job done right.

Confirm that the angle grinder is unplugged, then place it face up on a work surface so the wheel guard is pointing up. Loosen the clamp on the wheel guard, using the Phillips-head screwdriver, until you can swivel the wheel guard. Turn over the grinder then thread the side handle into the threaded port on either the left or right side of the grinder, depending on whether you are right or left handed. Be sure the side handle is on the side of your least-dominant hand, so if you're right handed, it's on the left, and so on.

Turn the grinder over on its top again. Drop the inner flange provided with the tool over the spindle in the center of the wheel guard area. Slide the grinding wheel over the spindle next, making sure the side with the label is facing away from you. Thread the outer flange nut in place with your hands, then turn over the grinder.

Push down the spindle lock button by the side handle. It is at the tip of the grinder by the side handle. Tighten down the outer flange nut using the wrench provided with the grinder, then release the spindle lock. Turn the wheel guard so it sits opposite the end of the grinder, then tighten it in place using the Phillips-head screwdriver.

Plug in the grinder and put on any safety equipment. Pull the trigger and apply the grinding disc to the surface you're grinding. Apply light pressure with the grinder, letting the tool do the bulk of the work, lest you cause the grinder to overheat.
